at the Power Plant
My calendar is prompting this post.
It’s the kind of variety that is the gift of Toronto and this current moment in history and that gift is important to appreciate.[1]
Watching / Attending
Last Tuesday to next Tuesday:
- Public Recordings’ What We Are Saying in World Stage at the Power Plant. Saw the dress rehearsal – this is a special one. Simple and complex experience of the joys and pains of being together. Great to see World Stage and the Power Plant hanging out. Tickets are still available for Friday and Saturday. GET SOME.
- Salome at the beautiful Four Seasons Centre. Hung out with my friend Trevor. First time back in that building since the night Rob Ford won the election. It’s still a great building and there weren’t any traumatic associations.
- One Little Goat’s The Charge Of The Expormidable Moose at Tarragon. A chance to catch a play out of the Les Automatistes movement – whose paintings are my favourite historic Canadian art and who wrote a mean manifesto. Also, Lindsey Clark from Antigone Dead People (& other stuff too) is always great and recent Difficult Play readers Hume and Sochi are lovely. Plus post show drinks with Leora. What could go wrong?
- One of my favourite Halifax performers, Stewart Legere, brings El Camino or The Field of Stars to Videofag. I’ll be taking tickets Friday night. Come on by.[2]
- I’ll learn some of what contemporary psychoanalysis has to say about music and art at Meaning, Mortality and Music: Existential and Evolutionary Perspectives
- And encourage my current return of being-into-puppets at Fresh Ideas in Puppetry
- Tuesday I’m going to REHEARSAL HALL at Tarragon to see what the future of theatre is up to.

This isn’t to brag, complain or fall into the busy trap. It’s to say that I like when I remember to take advantage of the possibilities. I also like my garden and kittens.
- It’s also unsustainable time-wise and financially – only possible because I am exchanging labour (box office, documentation, reflective writing) for tickets in every case and being supported as a teacher and consultant. The balance of finding what works and what can sustain. But these are ok problems, cause there’s some great art and great people there. ↩
